CHRISTIES SEVENS 2014

Looking for some rugby action? Did you miss the much hyped Prinsloo 7's last weekend? Probably coz it was in NaxVegas and for some reason you couldn't go all the way? Oh well, you have no reason to miss Christies this weekend... except, of course, if you aren't in Nairobi!

The Safaricom 7s series happens every year from August to October. All the major national rugby teams; Kenya Harlequins, Mwamba RFC,  Nakuru RFC, KCB Rugby among others battle it out every week in a series of tournaments. Masaku 7s, Dala 7s, Kabeberi 7s, Drifwood 7s, Prinsloo 7s, Christie 7s, and the final being Safaricom 7s in September.

The 15th National Sevens Circuit gets underway with the staging of the Christie Sevens at the RFUEA Grounds on the 06th and 07th of September. This tournament sees all participating teams start the battle to be crowned Kenyan Club Sevens Champions at the close of the National Sevens Circuit.

The Christie Sevens has grown over the years from a one day event to become a pivotal part of the NSC as results from the Christies have either dramatically altered or determined the course of the NSC. Players such as Benjamin Ayimba, Felix Ochieng, Sammy Khakame, Oscar Osir, Allan Hicks, Mitch Ocholla, Jeff Tolo, Gordon Anampiu, Sidney “Blackrose” Obonyo,Kennedy Aswani, Steve Gichuki and Paul “Pablo” Murunga, all retired members of the Kenya Rugby Sevens team have honed their skills at this tournament.

Present day Kenya players Collins Injera, Lavin Asego, Sidney Ashioya,Biko Adema to name but a few have also taken part in previous Christies, making an impression that earned them selection to the Kenya Sevens. Which future stars are going to unearthed at the 2014 Christies? Who will win this tourney? Stay tuned for updates…
